The West Windsor Community Farmers Market is pleased to announce the opening of its 2011 farmers market season. Beginning May 7th and continuing through to October 29th (rain or shine!), the Market will be open on Saturdays from 9:00am-1:00pm.
Opening in 2004 with 9 vendors, the market has expanded to its current roster of 25 growers and food producers. Multiple options for breakfast at the market abound this year. In addition to the baked goods and pastries from Village Bakery, Jammin’ Crepes, a Princeton-based company using ingredients from area farms and Sweet Belgians, a classic Belgian waffle company that makes waffles on site will add to the breakfast choices.
Also new to the market this year will be Beech Tree Farm selling beef in a variety of cuts; Lilliepies, individually baked pies and pastries; Baby Bear Foods, offering a selection of hand-made organic baby foods; jams made with many local farm ingredients from Jersey Jams and Jellies and soaps made by 100% Natural Handcrafted Soaps. For a complete list of vendors, visit the Vendors link at www.westwindsorfarmersmarket.org.
The market welcomes a new manager this season, Chris Cirkus, who is known in the area for her preschool children’s cooking classes and her support of local food and farm initiatives. Community groups and non-profits attending the Market on a regular basis include the West Windsor Arts Council, the West Windsor Bike and Pedestrian Alliance, Friends of West Windsor Open Space and “Yes, We Can”, a volunteer group that collects food for the Crisis Ministry of Princeton and Trenton.
On opening day, the entertainment for the day will be area favorite Mountain View starting at 10:00am.
Updated information about each week’s events can be found on the West Windsor Farmers Market Facebook page as well as the weekly online newsletter sent out on Fridays.
The Market is located in the Vaughn Drive Parking Lot of the southbound side of the Princeton Junction Train Station, one mile from the Alexander Road and Route 1 intersection. Parking is free. For directions to the market, visit the website at www.westwindsorfarmersmarket.org.
